Telescopic / telehandler forklift training

An extendable boom lifts loads much higher and further than other forklifts.

The key feature of the telehandler forklift is the extendable, outreaching boom. Acting not dissimilarly to a small-scale crane, the arm allows for a high reach, making it suitable for elevating objects much higher than other forklifts.

Telehandlers are often used in agriculture, logistics, construction and recycling, and they excel at lifting into tight-fitting or unusual areas. Because the load moves away from the machine as the boom extends, understanding the load chart and the effect of outreach on stability is central to safe operation.

What the course covers

  • Pre-use inspection and daily checks
  • Boom extension and load charts
  • Stability and outreach
  • Placing loads at height
  • Working near overhead hazards
  • Attachments and their limits

Who it suits

  • Construction and house building
  • Agriculture
  • Waste and recycling
  • Logistics yards

Assessment and certification

Candidates complete a theory test, a practical pre-use inspection and an assessed practical driving test. Those who pass receive a certificate of basic training for the telehandler truck type. We recommend refresher training every three to five years in line with HSE guidance.
