How we work out the answer
The finder follows the structure in the HSE Approved Code of Practice L117. Anyone who operates a lift truck at work needs basic training on that truck type, followed by specific job training and familiarisation. What changes is how much basic training they need:

| Novice | People who have never driven a lift truck | 3 to 5 days |
| Experienced operator | People with experience but no recognised certificate | 1 to 2 days |
| Conversion | Certificated operators moving to a new truck type | 1 to 2 days |
| Refresher | Certificated operators due a refresher, after an incident, or returning after a break | Usually 1 day |
